May the Fourth be with you! Bahahaha

Anway…

Here are the STAAR review packets I talked about on Friday: Quick STAAR Review Termsand STAAR Yellow Card Key Terms. Find about 30 minutes prior to Wednesday morning to look over any unknown terms/people.  We will have some class copies of these to look at Monday and Tuesday in class.

General information about AP testing from the counselors (VERY IMPORTANT!!)

IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR STUDENTS TAKING AP EXAMS:

AP exam season begins Monday, May 4 and continues through May 15.

MORNING EXAMS: Exam begins at 8:00 a.m. SHARP so arrive at 7:45 a.m.
Following your exam, you will report to your 4th period class and follow the rest of your regular schedule.
Students who arrive after 8:00 will not be able to enter the testing room.

AFTERNOON EXAMS: Exams begin at 12:30 p.m. SHARP so arrive at 12:15 p.m.
You will be dismissed for lunch at 11:30 if you have an afternoon exam.
Students who arrive after 12:30 will not be able to enter the testing room.

Please remind your AP students that it is essential that they find their name on the AP rosters in the cafeteria, to determine whether they are testing in the small gym or the gray gym, and to find their testing row number. There are 20 rows of 15 desks in the small gym, and 20 rows of 12 desks in the gray gym.

Please also encourage students who are testing in the GRAY gym to enter the gym through the door on the north end of the building. (that is the door by the competition gym where we have pep rallies.)

If you have morning and afternoon exams on the same day, you are STRONGLY ADVISED to bring a lunch!
You will not have time to leave campus to eat.

Check the south wall in the cafeteria for Exam locations. Most AP exams will be in the
Building A Small Gym or the Building A Gray Gym. Digital exams will be in specified computer labs.

Bring the following items to your exam:
• Picture I.D.
• Several sharpened No. 2 pencils with erasers.
• Black or dark blue ballpoint pens for free-response questions in most exams. Please do not bring felt tip or jell pens.
• A watch…. You are responsible for pacing yourself during the exam.
• Calculators… Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, Statistics and Biology.
• Social Security Number (optional)
• Tissues

Do Not Bring – Cell phones, and other electronic devices, food or drink (even water), watches that beep, highlighters, dictionaries or scratch paper are NOT allowed during AP exams and breaks. Possession of a cell phone during these exams could invalidate your exam score.

There is no room for back-packs in the testing area. They should be left in your locker or your car. If back packs are brought to the testing area, they will be stored, unsecured, in the hallways.

Have a great night!

YOU DID IT!!!!

I hope you found the test “fair” and “not too bad” like many of you have said. Now you can enjoy the weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless you’re taking the SAT or studying your life away. :/

Here are a few things, as promised:

STAAR stuff: SampleBook-USHistory I’ll also have a list of terms to look over on Monday at your leisure.

American Political Party timeline awesomeness:

Apparently I’ve never mentioned my “almost famous rock star” brother in law:

http://www.jamestownrevival.com/

Jonathan, with the darker blond hair that plays guitar and sings and doesn’t wear a hat, is my sister’s husband. Zack, the really blond one with the crazy beard and the hat, is his childhood bestie. They’ve done stuff like Coachella, ACL, and a lot of other music festivals, were on Hart of Dixie several times, had songs on Grey’s Anatomy, wrote some stuff for Miley Cyrus’s movie LOL (lol), etc. Check them out!

For class Monday, bring stuff to study for your AP Exams, especially APUSH and AP Lang. We’ll also give some time to talk more about the STAAR test and what to expect if we haven’t in class already.

I think that’s all folks. Please have a safe, responsible, fun weekend and enjoy the SUN!!!! 🙂

So Now That The Test Is Only A Week Away, We Finally Start Looking At History In The Order In Which It Happened…#smh

AMSTUDIANS!!!

Thanks for getting your projects in today and for working (well, most of you working #subtweet) on your review in class today.  Find a few reminders below:

  • If you want, here is an evaluation to be completed over the Generation group project that you turned in today.  You can answer the questions and email them to Mr. Oyster-Sands by class time THURSDAY.  Only the teachers will see the responses and will take your comments into account when we review the projects.  Group Evaluation – Generation Project  This is not required but it is your chance to tell us how your group worked or did not work.
  • http://ap.gilderlehrman.org/period/1  Here is a website you can use to review the APUSH Time Periods, if you feel you need more.  There you will find some riveting videos and historical documents for your edification and preparation.
  • Remember to be finding and printing your images for the in-class review packet.  It will all need to be completed by THURSDAY….
  • …because you will have a full AP US History test in class on FRIDAY, MAY 1!  This will cover EVERYTHING and will count as a test grade this six weeks.  #studystudyschoolsyourbuddy

Well, that is all for now.  Later.

Hodum & Oyster-Sands

My hands hurt.

Good afternoon Amstudians!

We hope your hands don’t hurt too much after double essay day. We’re not making you suffer without purpose! This is to get ready for the looming AP Exams.
And, in that vein, here’s your daily reality check:

  • AP US History exam is TWO WEEKS FROM FRIDAY
  • AP English Lang exam is THREE WEEKS FROM TODAY

That means if you are not studying for the APUSH exam yet, you should be. We will be doing a chronological review next week as well to help you prepare.

In class shirt news, remember you need to go to Custom Ink to order your shirt. Orders must be placed by Friday night at midnight so we can have the shirts in-hand for AP Exam week.

Our last question forum of the year will be on Friday, so get this reading done:  America in the 21st Century

Here’s a repost of makeup work and due dates if you’re going on the myriad of trips this week. Please remember that we WILL NOT BE TAKING ANY MAKEUP WORK LATE.

  1. PROJECT (My Generation Project) is due on Monday 4/27 That’s a firm deadline — so regardless of YOUR attendance on April 27, your PROJECT must be in our hands!  Remember we need a link of your video emailed to us. Please send the link to Mrs. Hodum at lauren.hodum@pisd.edu   You need to make SURE it is accessible on school computers before you turn it in.
  2. If you miss Thursday Generation X at 40.  You need to turn this in, completed, and posted on your blog by Tuesday when your class period beings.
  3. If you miss Friday…Choose TWO slides from this ppt (Impact of 9-11).  In a well written, typed (MLA expectations — ds/tnr/etc) essay, analyze the graphs/sources you chose, and explain how 9/11’s impact can be seen on this topic.  Make sure to explain both what has changed, and how those changes have affected society.  Your response should be approximately 2 pages long.

If you miss Monday … your project better still be here! ;)

Get ready to enjoy the sights and sounds of OUR (Mr. Oyster-Sands and my) GENERATION tomorrow!!!! 80s Madonna, 90s grunge, or any other 80s-90s clothing is totally appropriate and encouraged.

If you need some 90s era music video prep for tomorrow, this is pretty good:

We’re out!
~Hodum & Oyster-Sands

I don’t like it when disappointed-dad-President-Carter tells me to stop spending my hard-earned money on Wheaties, televisions, and McDonald’s hamburgers.

Howdy AMSTUDIANS!

The votes are in, here is the final t-shirt design: Front/ back on seafoam

Choice 1

UPDATE: Follow this LINK to order your shirt! Ordering closes Friday at midnight so we can get the shirts before the AP exams.

For class tomorrow, you *MIGHT* want to look over AP exam essay notes  because you *MIGHT* be writing two of them tomorrow. HINT HINT. WINK WINK.

If you are leaving on one of the trips, see yesterday’s post about makeup work and due dates. We are giving you these assignments ahead of time, so we WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING LATE WORK.

Have a nice evening!
~Hodum & Oyster-Sands

This video reminds me of my relationship with some of you. (I’m the dog, you are the squirrel.)

The votes are in….

The overwhelming winner is Option A:

amstud tshirt winner

Tomorrow we’ll have a final vote on a couple of options, and then we’ll talk about price and ordering. I’ll tell you right now, for Comfort Colors, we have to have at least 50 orders to get that shirt, so…

In school-related news:

Today was your final project work day, so it’s down to crunch time now…more crunchy time for some of you who will be going out of town at the end of this week.  So how about a quick recap?

2) NOVEL (Modern Choice Novels) is due TOMORROW!!  Come to class with your project, your novel, and a readiness to discuss!  One clarification — after further discussion today, we’ve decided to clarify that your essay can focus on EITHER Generations OR Globalization.  You don’t have to hit both.

3) 80s/90s QF (1980s-1990s) is tomorrow! Don’t forget to wear your flannel shirt and ripped jeans and come ready to talk about our childhood….

4) Your Last QF of the year (America in the 21st Century) is due on FRIDAY (4/24)

Speaking of Friday….as mentioned earlier, a large number of you will not be with us in some combination of Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Monday…For you, makeup work:

If you miss Wednesday…we will catch you when you get back.

If you miss Thursday….Generation X at 40.  You need to turn this in, completed, printed on Tuesday April 28.

If you miss Monday … your project better still be here! ;)
